6th Grade History Night

"History SOL Night" review session is on Wednesday, May 5th from 6:00-7:30. This "History SOL Night" will be held in the cafeteria and will give you an opportunity to either drop off your child, or spend some time reviewing with them. We will have different review stations set up in the cafeteria for students to rotate through. We would love some parent volunteers to help monitor the various review stations. We are asking that students RSVP and let us know if they will be attending "History SOL Night" as soon as possible. You can RSVP via e-mail or by returning the card students will receive in class on Monday. Please make sure students are picked up promply at 7:30.

SPRING BREAK EXTRA CREDIT
For 10 points (yes, that's A LOT!) Extra Credit complete the Spring Break Extra Credit Quiz listed below. You may take the quiz as many times as you would like, but you must score an A (94 or higher) to receive the extra credit. The quiz contains questions from every unit we have covered so far this school year. This will be good practice to prepare yourself for the SOL Test in May. Please make sure you have 15/20 minutes to take the quiz. You will not receive any extra credit if you do not score an A... so keep taking it until you do!!! :)

This week we finished discussing important events & battles of the Civil War and students had a quiz on this information on Thursday. Yesterday, students were assigned a Civil War Timeline Project of important events of the Civil War ending at Appomattox Courthouse. Students worked on the timelines in class yesterday, and will continue to work on them today after the quiz. The timeline is due Wednesday, April 14th.

Today in class we took notes on the compromises that occurred before the Civil War. Tomorrow students will color maps that indicate the states in the Union and the Confederacy.
Students will have a quiz on Friday that will cover:
North/South Notes
Compromises Notes
States in the Union/Confederacy
Border states
Students should be studying their blue flashcards EVERY NIGHT.

On Thursday students took notes on the differences between the North and the South before the Civil War. Students will draw a picture on Monday showing the differences between the two sides. Each drawing needs to include ALL of the information from the notes sheet.

This week in class we completed our Unit 8 notes. Students completed notes and drawings on inventions in the 1800's on Tuesday after their quiz. Today we completed notes on the abolitionist movement and the suffrage movement.
Students will have a test on Unit 8 on Friday.

New Inventions
Abolitionist Movement

This week we have have been moving through Unit 8. So far we have completed notes on Territorial Expansion and Western Expansion. Every student has coral colored notecards for this unit that they should be studying nightly.

Students have a quiz on Tuesday, March 9th that will cover the notes on Territorial Expansion and Westward Expansion.

PreAp take home Quiz
Today and tomorrow in class PreAp students will be working on a ToonDoo project on the 3 branches of government. Instead of taking their quiz tomorrow every PreAp student needs to take the above quiz by Thursday morning. Students may take the quiz as many times as they wish so that they can earn a good score.

Today in class students took notes on the Bill of Rights. We discussed the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution and how they are a written guarantee of our individual rights.

Tomorrow we will be completing an ActivVote Review to prepare for the Quiz on Wednesday. The quiz on Wednesday will cover the following information:
*Constitutional Principles
*Branches of Government
*Bill of Rights
*The Articles of Confederation (review questions)
*Vocabulary (review questions)

Students are reminded that this is a VERY difficult unit and make sure you are keeping up with your work and studying your notecards EVERY NIGHT!!!

SNOW DAY EXTRA CREDIT



Well, another snow storm gives you a GREAT opportunity for some Extra Credit! I hope you enjoy playing in the snow, but I hope you take a little time to review some History! You got new notecards after your Articles of Confederation Quiz yesterday, so the Extra Credit will help you to start reviewing the new material.
In order to receive 5 points Extra Credit play the Battleship Game listed below on the Constitutional Principles. To receive the Extra Credit you must play the review game for at least 20 MINUTES. Snow Day Update

Unit 7 Schedule Update and Vocab Retake Update


On Thursday students completed drawings of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. These need to be completed for homework.


The NEXT time students have school they will have a quiz in history. The quiz will include - Articles of Confederation Notes - Unit 7 Vocabulary - Declaration of Independence notes (from unit 6). There are several games below for students to review for the quiz and they also have purple notecards.

Unit 7 Vocab Retake: In order to retake the Unit 7 Vocabulary Quiz students must review their words by playing review games on quia for at least 20 minutes. After students have played review games they MUST take the vocab practice quiz and earn and 'A' on the quiz (you may take the quiz as many times as you need too). Once students have completed this review they may see me to get a lunch pass to retake the quiz. I will offer a retake for two days during lunch beginning the NEXT day we are in school.

On Thursday in class students began their notes on the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and on Friday they took their Unit 7 Vocabulary quiz.
Unit 7 Vocabulary quiz retakes will be held on Thursday during lunch. Any student that wishes to retake their vocabulary quiz MUST come for lunch on Wednesday to review.

On Tuesday students will complete drawings of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and they will have a quiz on Wednesday. All students should be studying their PURPLE notecards and playing review games.

Tuesday after the Unit 7 Pre-Test students started working on their Unit 7 Vocabulary Boxes. Unit 7 is typically the most difficult unit for students so it is important that each student stay on top of his/her work throughout the unit starting with vocabulary.

For each vocabulary word students are given the definition and they have to describe:
*things the word is like
*things the word is not like
*draw a picture that represents the word.
The completed Vocabulary Boxes are due on Friday, and the Vocabulary Quiz will be on Friday. Students can use the games listed below to help them review and should also be studying their purple notecards.

Today is the beginning of the 3rd nine weeks.

The Pre-AP classes will have their first test on Wednesday. This test will cover Unit 6. There is an ActivVote review and review games posted below to help students study.

In all other classes we will be making a Revolutionary War Timeline. The timeline will be due on Thursday and will be the first grade of the 3rd nine weeks.

The Pre-AP students are not responsible for the timeline but they may complete it for extra credit. I have shown them an example in class and they are welcome to work on it at lunch if they need supplies.

Semester Exam Study Guides are due the day of each student's exam. They will be collected and graded. We reviewed the study guide in class but students can use the PowerPoint below to correct the answers to their Study Guide if they missed class today.

Monday in class we completed our notes on Events of the American Revolution. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday (January 6th) on the People and Events of the American Revolution.

Today in class I handed out the Semester Exam Review Packet. This packet is due on Friday, January 8th and must have a parent signature. We will be reviewing for the the Semester Exam for the rest of the week in class but students should also be studying ALL of their notecards and playing the review games that I have listed below.

Sixth grade students will be taking Semester Course Tests for the first time this year. Each student's individual class schedule will determine the dates of his/her semester tests. Students will begin testing on Monday, January 11th and will end with their last tests on Thursday, January 14th. Monday will be a regular school day and Tuesday-Thursday will be early release days from school and lunch will not be served. Students will have a 15/20 minute "snack" period between tests, but no lunch. The schedule for the test week is as follows:
