We had a great first week and I really enjoyed getting to know everyone. The students did a fantastic job with their globe project!!! I can't wait to hang them up on the wall this week.
On Monday we will take the pretest for geography. The pretest does not count against the students' grade - it is only used to see how much they already know before the unit starts. On Monday I will also hand out info cards to each student. It will have their computer login for WBMS and their quia login. We will use quia for online quizzes, tests and practice activities. Most of the class on Monday will be spent getting the students acquainted with the laptop computers.
I am looking forward to another fantastic week and I am very excited to start our first unit on Geography. If anyone would like to do some practice activities they can click on the quia link on the side of the page.

Today students shared their globes with the class. Everyone who completed their globe did a fantastic job. The globes were awesome! The drawings were great and the students really enjoyed listening to their classmates present. I am so proud of everyone for doing such a good job. Those who did not get to present will do so tomorrow. The globes will be on display all year in my room and I hope you get to see them on back to school night.
Students also received their textbooks. These can stay at home until June when I collect them. We are lucky enough to have a class at school to use during the day.
Tomorrow we will organize notebooks and start learning how to access information online. We will have a pretest on Monday which will not count against their grade and then we dive right into the geography unit.

We are off to a great start in History. I know many students have brought home papers that need to be filled in by their parents. If you dig through the stack of papers from the student conduct code there is a white sheet that helps you figure out what needs to come back to school and what stays at home.
In history class today we reviewed the Class Syllabus and the Rules and Procedures. I also sent each student home with a contact sheet. Parents need to fill out the top sheet and students need to fill out the bottom of the sheet. If your child does not have a copy of the Info Sheet you can download it by clicking on the link on the left for classnotesonline.com
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Welcome 6th Grade Students!!!! Most of you were able to attend the Terrier Transition program and were able to learn a little about what to expect at William Byrd Middle School. The first day of school is August 24th and I am looking forward to getting to know all of my students. I will use this blog to communicate with students and parents about my classroom and activities at the school. This will include information on what we did in class, upcoming quizzes and tests and any school announcements. I will also include links to other webpages that will be useful to you.
