I can't believe it is already the third week of school! Yesterday we finished our notes on Longitude and Latitude and today we are working on the major bodies of water in North America. Today students colored and labeled a map with major bodies of water in the United States and took notes on the back explaining why they are significant. The map should look similar to the one to the right.

Students have a quiz on Friday that will cover:

(1) Labeling the continents, oceans, bodies of water in North America
(2) Explaining the importance of the bodies of water in North America
(3) Geography vocabulary including longitude and latitude

Today we learned about Longitude and Latitude by learning a song and playing a game. In the game students had to use longitude and latitude to find points on a map. The students seemed to love the game and demonstrated that they were able to use longitude and latitude correctly. I can't believe week two is already over! It has been a great week and I hope everyone has a restful weekend! See you Tuesday.

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Today the students started their geography vocabulary. They were each given a worksheet with eight words and a definition. The students then had to come up with examples for:
  • what the word is like
  • what the word is not like
  • a picture for the word

Students are welcome to post to the blog if they are stuck on any of the words. We shared some in class today and each class had very creative examples for the words. I can't wait to hear more of them tomorrow!

Homework is to finish the worksheet and have their computer login cards signed. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.
