Students drew pictures of occupations in colonial America. Students need to complete these drawings for homework. For each occupation on the worksheet students need to draw a picture that describes the ENTIRE description for each box. My example is below.






On Wednesday, students will have a quiz on the following:





(1) The 13 colonies
5 colonies in the South
4 colonies in the Middle
4 colonies in New England

(2) The 6 settlements that we took notes on in class (Roanoke Island, Jamestown, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, Pennsylvania and Georgia). They need to know all of the information from their notes sheets.



(3) The occupations of the people living in the the 13 colonies.

After the Vocab quiz on Tuesday students worked on their 13 colonies map. Each student should have a map that shows the New England, Middle and Southern regions.

In class on Friday and Monday students worked on their Unit 4 Vocabulary Squares.
For each word students need to:
  • Give two examples of what it is like
  • Give two examples of what it is not like
  • Draw a picture of the word

Vocabulary boxes are due on Tuesday. Students will also have a quiz on these words on Tuesday.

PreAP classes must also be able to spell the words correctly.

The location of the Niger River and Sahara Desert in Africa.

Cultural Interaction between First Americans and European Explorers
How the French, Spanish and English interacted with First Americans
Areas of conflict (land, competition for trade, cultural differences, language and disease) and cooperation (technology, trade, crops) between First Americans and Europeans

Monday in class students made drawings showing the cultural interactions between First Americans and Europeans. They used their note sheet from Thursday to complete their drawings. The drawings must be completed by Tuesday so that each student can participate in the walk and talk (sharing of drawings with classmates).



Wednesday we will have a quiz on Exploration that will cover:

Our Unit 3 Vocabulary test is Thursday and will cover the 16 vocabulary words from the Vocabulary Squares worksheet. We began our exploration notes on Tuesday. We started with Portugal and their trade with the West African societies of Mali, Ghana and Songhai. Each student should have a notes sheet and a drawing that demonstrates their understanding of the notes. If you neeed a notes sheet click here.



Don't forget to bring in your money for the play. The last day to bring in money is on Thursday (tomorrow)!!!

We will begin our Unit 3 vocabulary today. There are 16 vocabulary words for Unit 3 and we started our vocabulary boxes in class. For each word students need to:
1) give two examples of what it is like
2) give two examples of what it is not like
3) draw a picture with color

The vocabulary squares worksheet is due on Wednesday and there will be a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

Starting Tuesday homeroom teachers will be collecting money from students to attend the high school play, Charlie Brown Comes to Town, on Friday, October 9th. The cost of the play is $1.00. Students need to turn in their money by Thursday if they would like to attend the play.

Friday in class students completed their Unit 3 PreTest. After the PreTest students completed any missing assignments from Unit 2. We then organized our Unit 2 files by taking out all of our notes sheets and putting them in folders to keep in the class. We also created a Unit 2 Title Page. Students need to finish this at home if it was not completed in class.
